The UNFPA Mongolia mission team visited Northern provinces of Darkhan-Uul, Bulgan and Khuvsgul and some soums that has been selected for the implementation of the “Accelerating the progress towards the elimination of preventable maternal and perinatal mortality” project, supported by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The mission team has met with local authorities, doctors, midwives, health education teachers and students to gain in-depth information on maternal and newborn health care services, adolescent-friendly health service, quality of the comprehensive sexuality education of students while exchanging views on project activities and desired outcomes.
The local authorities have expressed their commitment to the successful implementation of the project, particularly, the authorities of Khuvsgul province pledged their willingness to mobilize additional funding from the provincial budget, if required. During the mission, the team handed over the UNFPA's Dignity kits to the Soum Health Centers in order to support the mothers who stay in the Waiting homes.
Over the next five years, the Ministry of Health and UNFPA Mongolia will jointly implement the project across 10 provinces, 20 soums and 2 districts of Ulaanbaatar.
Furthermore, in collaboration with the Unitel Group, UNFPA will implement the "Digital library" project in these provinces. During the mission, the team closely monitored the preparations for the project's implementation.
