Within the framework of the “Accelerating the progress towards the elimination of preventable maternal and perinatal mortality” project, funded by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, UNFPA Mongolia partnered with the Ministry of Health and the Mongolian Federation of Obstetricians and Gynecologists to conduct the training titled "Improving Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response," aimed to strengthen the quality of maternal and newborn care services.

Held on July 7, 2023, the training brought together the management, and health professionals from the Health Department and the Regional Diagnostic and Treatment Center of Umnugobi Province. Over the course of three days, participants delved into essential steps to improve the quality of clinical audits of maternal complications, stillbirths and early newborn deaths, and develop response.

The opening remarks were delivered by B. Ganshagai, the head of the Health Department of Umnugobi province, who underscored the significance of this training in addressing pressing maternal health challenges. The training sessions were facilitated by national trainers, led by Associate Professor D. Munkhtsetseg of the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences and Doctor Emeritus of Mongolia B. Bayasgalantai. Drawing from their wealth of experience and expertise, the trainers guided local members of the audit and response committee to develop a customized response plan.

This initiative marks a critical step towards advancing maternal and newborn care services in Umnugobi province, aligning with UNFPA's mission to promote maternal health and reduce preventable maternal mortality. UNFPA Mongolia remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a healthier and safer environment for mothers and infants across the nation.
