UNFPA Mongolia mission team is visiting the Khovd provincial centre, Zereg and Bulgan soums of Khovd province, which has been selected as part of the “Accelerating the progress towards the elimination of preventable maternal and perinatal mortality” project, supported by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
The team has met with the local authorities, specialists, doctors, teachers and youth of the province and soums to gain in-depth information on maternal and infant health and exchange views on project activities.
This project will be implemented jointly by the Ministry of Health and UNFPA Mongolia in 10 provinces, 20 soums and 2 districts of Ulaanbaatar for 5 years with the funding of the Government of Luxembourg.
In 2022, the United Nations Population Fund supported the establishment of a Youth Development Centre in Mankhan Soum, Khovd Province. The team was happy to learn that the local adolescents and youth are actively using the centre, coming up with creative ideas to develop youth, and leading their peers to create positive changes.
Since its re-opening in October 2022, the doctor of the Adolescents and Youth Cabinet of the Regional Diagnostic and Treatment Center of Khovd Province has provided healthcare services to 1,335 adolescent boys and girls.
