4 August 2022, Ulaanbaatar – Dr. Enkhbold, Minister of Health, received Dr. Khalid Sharifi, UNFPA Head of office in Mongolia, and held a thorough discussion on current challenges in maternal, newborn and child health in the country. 

During the meeting, Dr. Enkhbold expressed his sincere gratitude to UNFPA Mongolia for its great contribution to the achievement of Millennium Development Goal 5 and making Mongolia the one of the only nine countries in the world which achieved the maternal mortality reduction target. Moreover, he emphasized the successful implementation of the previous phases of the Telemedicine project that helped us to improve the quality and access to maternal and newborn health services nationwide. 

Dr. Khalid introduced the UNFPA and the Government of Mongolia’s new country programme starting from 2023 and the highlights of the new phase of the Telemedicine for Maternal and Newborn Health project funded by the Government of Luxembourg where a more comprehensive approach will be taken by enhancing family planning, the capacity of midwives, comprehensive sexuality education and health response to gender-based violence.

Both leaderships of UNFPA and the Ministry of Health expressed their full commitment to the continued partnership in improving maternal, and sexual and reproductive health in the country and achieving the Mongolia Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
