Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, in partnership with Anungoo LLC, has launched a joint initiative to improve menstrual health education and access to sanitary products for adolescent girls in Mongolia. The project aims to support and empower girls aged 13–17 with knowledge, menstrual hygiene products, and the confidence to manage their menstruation with dignity and safety.

According to a study, only 17 percent of school-aged girls in Mongolia have access to toilets that meet menstrual hygiene and sanitation standards. Financial constraints prevent many from using safe and hygienic menstrual products, while widespread misinformation fosters stigma, shame, and isolation.

To address these challenges, the project will implement awareness-raising and educational activities on menstrual health across 20 soums in 10 selected aimags. In addition, 1,100 girls living in 27 dormitories in these soums will receive monthly sanitary products. The initiative will also extend support to girls in special needs schools in Ulaanbaatar, providing tailored education and supplies to meet their specific needs and promote their self-confidence.

“Menstrual health is essential for achieving gender equality and ensuring girls can thrive in school and in life,” said Dr. Khalid Sharifi, UNFPA Head of Office in Mongolia. “This partnership strengthens our collective commitment to empower young people with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed.”

“At Anungoo, we believe every girl deserves the opportunity to live a healthy, empowered life,” said Ms. Khandaa, CEO of Anungoo LLC. “We are proud to work with UNFPA to help remove barriers to menstrual health and contribute to a more inclusive future.”

This joint effort reflects UNFPA’s and Anungoo’s shared dedication to improving adolescent health, promoting gender equality, and building a society where every girl is informed, supported, and free from stigma.

UNFPA works closely with government, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector to strengthen sexual and reproductive health and rights, ensure gender equality, increase the participation of adolescents in decision-making, and build the capacity of young people. Menstrual health is essential to building a healthier and more equitable society.
