Uvurkhangai, Mongolia – 8 April 2022UNFPA has launched the Pre-departure Programme today, on 8 April 2022, in Uvurkhangai province, expanding other interventions to deliver quality health education, including comprehensive sexuality education, for young people. The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection plans to expand the Pre-departure programme nationwide.

With the support of UNFPA, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection established three life skills-based health education halls in Uvurkhangai province to reach marginalized young people with life skills-based comprehensive sexuality education.

UNFPA designed and developed the Pre-departure Programme for secondary school graduating students departing to the provincial centre and Ulaanbaatar for higher education within the Integrated Support Programme (ISP) for Women and Young People's Health in Umnugobi province in partnership with UNICEF, WHO, Australian Embassy, Gobi Oyu DSF, and the Umnugobi Provincial Government in the period of 2018-2021. 

The launch of the Pre-departure Programme was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, Uvurkhangai Province Governor’s Office, Family, Children, Youth Development Department of Uvurkhangai Province, UNFPA Mongolia Country Office and youth participants of the programme.

During the launch, Uvurkhangai local officials have expressed their commitment to ensuring the sustainability of UNFPA’s initiatives to reach marginalized adolescents and young people and expand the initiatives at the soum level.
