In July UNFPA Mongolia delivered tele-consultancy equipment to Orkhon, Bulgan, and Khuvsgul provincial hospitals. They are 18th, 19th, and 20th provinces to install tele-consultation system. The system, introduced by UNFPA’s Telemedicine Project, will allow the mothers of these provinces to seek help from specialists in National Center for Maternal and Child Health in Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia.
Along with the teleconsultation system, UNFPA also introduced cutting-edge training equipment for obstetrics and new-born-care. The provincial doctors can now develop and share the knowledge with the tools which will allow hands-on drill. The demonstration and training was provided by the medical staffs of National Center for Maternal and Child Health of Ulaanbaatar, with special emphasis on fostering teamwork in delivery situations.
United Nations Public Service Award winning Telemedicine Project started in 2007 with the joint effort of UNFPA, Government of Luxembourg, National Center for Maternal and Child Health and provincial hospitals. The Telemedicine Project aims to provide high quality counselling services to every woman in the country. Now in its exit phase, the Project will be handed over to and fully managed by Ministry of Health of Mongolia.
